OLIWA
An Apartment in the attic
Another attic apartment located in a historic late 19th-century tenement house in picturesque Oliwa, Gdańsk. The space required a comprehensive, full-scale renovation and a complete reconfiguration of the interior layout.
At the heart of the project is the fully exposed, original timber roof structure. The dense rhythm of wooden posts, collar beams, and joists not only lends the interior striking structural character and warmth, but also acts as a natural framework defining distinct living zones. To celebrate the unique volume of the attic rather than confine it, I opted for a largely open-plan layout.
The interior unfolds as a balanced dialogue between rustic warmth and modern restraint. The design language is rooted in noble, natural materials-raw wood, textured mineral plasters, linen, and stone-bringing a quiet, timeless elegance to the space. A distinct highlight is the bathroom, conceived per the client's request in a Mediterranean spirit: bright, warm, rich in organic textures, and evoking sunny memories of southern Europe.
