An Apartment with Soul
The apartment is situated on the ground floor of a late 19th-century tenement house. The project encompassed a comprehensive renovation, including a complete overhaul of all utility systems, carving out a new bathroom from part of an existing room, and a full structural floor replacement.
A key design objective was to expose the original pre-war brickwork in selected areas. During the uncovering of the wooden window lintels, floral paintings were revealed-a truly remarkable discovery. Additionally, dismantling the suspended ceiling in the kitchen exposed two steel I-beams, which I chose to leave visible as an authentic trace of the building’s historical layer.
Working on the project-paired with detailed on-site supervision and construction management-was demanding, yet brought immense professional and creative satisfaction. The apartment has been given a second life, and by unveiling its hidden past, a distinct soul.
